Education Initiative

One of our major focus is on Education. Tallafi Foundation want to eradicate illiteracy and get as many children back to school for a better future.
Our project on education are as follow:

  • School building: Tallafi Foundation tends to build classrooms or buildings for government-run schools, and build and run schools themselves.
  • Scholarships: Tallafi Foundation sponsor individual students and fund schools so that students do not have to pay the school fees that are common in the developing world.
  • Teacher training: Tallafi Foundation plans to train new teachers and upgrade the skills of established teachers.
  • Pre-primary schools: Tallafi Foundation plans to run schools for children ages 3-6 to prepare them for primary school.
  • Textbooks and supplies: Tallafi Foundation provide everything from pencils to chalkboards to uniforms and shoes.
  • Computers: Tallafi Foundation will fund computers in classrooms in schools and provide out-of-school computer training classes.
  • Libraries: Tallafi Foundation will build school- and community-based libraries.

Health Care Service in Partnership with HIVAM

HIVAM SUPPORTS PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS

For people living with HIV/AIDS, life could be very frustrating especially when one gets sick or faces financial constraints. For this group of people in Kwaya Kusar, it was a real manna from heaven when Hivam organized a one day sensitization workshop and distribution of drugs, food items and office equipment for them. The Jafi support group is a non-governmental organization that serves as the channel of communication and activities for people living with HIV/AIDS in Kwaya Kusar. HIVAM through it mobilized the members of the for the workshop which was held at the General Hospital Kwaya Kusar. The keynone speaker, Dr Bala educated the audience on the different ways of getting infected. He also spoke on symptoms. The speakers stressed that having the virus is not a death sentence. Early detection and attending clinics guarantee victims' a very good life, he urged the youth to practice abstinence. Other speakers which included the royal fathers of Kwaya Kusar, Yimir dallang and Gusi praised the initiative of Hon. Zuwaira Gambo and the medical team who are working tirelessly to support the group. While presenting drugs, food items and office equipment to the group. The Founder HIVAM appreciated the courage of the victims who came out and are willing to cooperate with everyone to ensure they overcome their health challenges. She appealed to the local government authority to support the victims. The beneficiaries were so overwhelmed with the items presented to them and thanked HIVAM for putting them into consideration.

HIVAM INNOCULATES 22,000 HEADS OF CATTLE IN KWAYA KUSAR DISTRICT OF BORNO STATE.

The Hope Initiative for the Vulnerable and Marginalized in its characteristic approach to addressing issues affecting the vulnerable in conjunction with the Kwaya Kusar Local Government Administration carried out an inoculation exercise for 22,000 cattles across the district. Cattle rearing and farming are the major economic activities in the area. HIVAM with the support of Mr. Yakubu Debiro a big time farmer in southern Borno procured vaccines from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. Speaking on behalf of HIVAM, Comrade Mohammed Salihu Aliyu, informed the gathering that the organization was aware of the constant loss of cattle due to infections, as an NGO, HIVAM knows the difficulty of getting the vaccines and decided to acquire it and the syringes to facilitate the exercise. He urged the Fulanis to continue living in peace with the farmers. He also thanked the Administration of the Local Government Council for their cooperation and support especially by proving the doctors and other auxiliary services. The programme was attended by the various Fulani leaders across the district who expressed joy at such an unprecedented gesture by any group to their community. The secretary, Kwaya kusar Local Government, Alhaji Hussaini Kantoma, thanked HIVAM for such a people oriented initiative and urged other indigenes to follow the footpath of Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, Founder, HIVAM who in the past had brought so many developmental interventions to the community. In his own remarks, Alhaji Zanna Isa Mohammed Chara, village head of Kwaya

Kusar, commended HIVAM for helping in promoting healthy economic growth in the district through such inoculation programme. Alhaji Hari Tagwaye, the Chairman, Conflict Resolution Committee between the Fulanis and Farmers, was very excited and stated that such exercise will promote peace and harmony between the farmers and rearers. He thanked the organization for its service to humanity. Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Sarkin Fulani, ably represented by Muhammad Adamu Fulani, said their feeling was beyond expression because they have never received such support from any quarters. He thanked HIVAM and her partners for putting into consideration the wellbeing of their animals, such an act he further emphasized, has given the Fulani's a great sense of belonging in the community. The program was witnessed by many stake holders in Kwaya Kusar.

Health a shortage of healthcare providers and lack of transportation options are among the top reasons people cannot obtain the healthcare they desperately need and deserve. In addition, many people cannot afford the high cost of Hospital bill or pay for the doctor. Hope Initiative is committed to eliminating these barriers.

  • Hope Initiative will support the future of healthcare through our Academic Awards to students pursuing medical and allied health careers
  • Hope Initiative will ensure that patients can get the care they need through our health program; and through "Caring for Our Neighbours" .
  • Hope Initiative ensure that patients who cannot pay for services are able to receive them.

Donation of Health Equipments

In the Southern part of Borno State, North East Nigeria, the serene town of Kwaya Kusar, headquarters of the Local Government Area played host to the members of the Board of Trustees, Staff, friends and associates of Hope Initiative for the Vulnerable and Marginalised HIVAM at a very colorful programme organized for the formal presentation of hospital equipment on Saturday, 18th June, 2011. The event which drew a lot of the indigenes and guests including traditional rulers from far and near was the first of its kind in the community. In her welcome address, the Founder of HIVAM, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo informed the gathering that HIVAM was established to address the all embracing socio-economic issues associated with the vulnerable members of the society. She stated that HIVAM's mission is to add value to the life of the vulnerable and marginalized through planned initiatives and well coordinated interventions designed to provide practical solutions and bring relief to these long neglected groups. One of the target groups of HIVAM is the woman, which explains the presentation of hospital equipment to enhance maternal and child care delivery in the community. This is in addition to the presentation of funds to twenty one widows to promote their business activities. The Clinic was renovated, hospital equipments such as delivery and patients' beds, mattresses, blankets, pillows, bed sheets, stretchers, trolleys, bedpans, forceps etc were donated and money disbursed to the widows. Other speakers commended the activities of HIVAM and called on other Non Governmental Organisations to emulate HIVAM.

The Executive Secretary of Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area, Alhaji Bashir Bulama thanked HIVAM for the initiative and promised that the equipment will be well maintained and protected. An Abuja based businessman Alhaji Adamu Usman who spoke through Alhaji Abba Mustapha a renowned Kannywood star praised the contributions of HIVAM and supported it by pledging to provide an ambulance and a borehole to the clinic. The member representing Kwaya Kusar Hon. Abubakar Babale in his own contribution commended Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo in her efforts to help women to live enhanced lives. He donated a twenty seven KVA generator to the Maternal and Child Health Clinic. In his own address, the PDP, Legal Adviser, Borno State who also represented Senator Mohammed Ndume at the occasion, Barrister Ibrahim Makeri, described Hajiya Gambo as a woman of great potentials who should be encouraged in her humanitarian activities. He threw an open challenge to the politicians and other stakeholders in the community to wake up to the clarion call of serving the community. He promised a strategic partnership between HIVAM and Senator Ndume who has been supporting various women groups in the constituency. The Medical Officer In charge of the Clinic Hajiya Hajara Yakubu on behalf of the staff thanked HIVAM and noted that a new lease of life has been brought to their working environment. While shedding tears of joy, one of the beneficiaries of the Widows Empowerment Scheme, Indiya Lawan Abba, expressed her gratitude on behalf of other recipients to HIVAM for the intervention. She stated that the funds will go a long way in expanding her groundnut oil production business.

Hajiya Mairo Tanko Almakura   was born in Kano , Nigeria  on the 12th of September 1964.
 
She is the founder of Tallafi Foundation a non-profit NGO that is dedicated to working tirelessly to uplift the living conditions of women and youths in this very difficult economic situation so that they can build a home for a better societal growth is the wife of Governor Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa state.
 
She has committed her time, energy and vast resources towards reaching out  to the needy in her state  and the country through her pet project, Tallafi Women and Youth Foundation. The  foundation set up with the aim to assist and support all disadvantaged persons in the society.
 
Mairo Almakura  an educationist at heart  she has amassed  a  Diploma in Banking and Finance, a Bsc in Management , an MBA and Phd in  Management. She has also blazed the trail in the field of education by ensuring that education and computer literacy which play  big part  the educational and empowerment programmes of Tallafi Foundation  to ensure that access to education and a better way of life for women and children.
 
Recently, due to her effort at promoting a better life for women especially those from her home state Nasarawa Mairo Almakura was turbaned the prestigious Garkuwan Matan Lafia by the Lafia Emirate Council.
 
 
 Mairo Almakura is married with three (3) lovely children, and has many times been referred to as an amazon with a heart of Gold.
 
Her hobbies include cooking, reading , traveling and helping the less privilege

Tallafi Foundation is a pet project of Her Excellency Mairo Tanko Al-Makura (Ph.D) which was initiated in July, 2011. Tallafi, meaning support, is a non-governmental organization, an initiative of the wife of the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State. The NGO’s main objective is to support widows, youth and vulnerable group in Nasarawa State. Her mission is to compliment government efforts towards uplifting of the less privileged in the state.
